Dev touches down for whirlwind Euro-tour of meetings and pictures - Portraits of a CEO

The biggest challenge when photographing Chief Execs is time - or rather, the lack of it. That generous 20 minutes in the original brief, soon becomes 15 minutes, then becomes 10, until on the day you find yourself with 5 minutes to shoot their portrait, sandwiched between their ‘one-thirty’ and ‘2 o’clock’.

So when I was commissioned to shoot portraits of the CEO of Newsweek(Dev Pragad)- the global news magazine with an international readership of 100 million a month, I admit I expected much of the same - but I couldn’t have been more wrong. There was no rapidly shrinking shoot window. The small talk was easy and natural - briefly covering our respective experience of the states - his life living and working in New York, and my struggle to understand my elderly relatives’ southern drawl on visits to South Carolina. And finally he was cool , calm and so easy to direct, and had a natural smile that it’s just not possible to fake.

Thank you Dev. It was a genuine pleasure to meet you, and shoot your portrait.
