"Paris, Milan, New York, London. I'm always on the move, always working and travelling between fashion shows all over the world, and the US where I have a lot of my clients."

I met Kervin at Spitalfields market where he has been trading for 15 years selling high-end fashion leather and fabric coats, jackets and bags that he designs and sells under his own brand Kervin Marc. The year started like any other for the former graduate of London's Central Saint Martins College, flying all over the world to promote and sell his work, until Paris fashion show, where, he told me, things started to change.

"It was at Paris fashion week that I first noticed something was happening. The mood was different in the showrooms and the people coming from Milan fashion show were more tentative. You could tell something big was coming. It was just after that, when I got back to London that the shutdown started"

For Kervin it was a big adjustment moving from his fashion world to his home world, but he said

"It could possibly have been the best thing that could of ever happened. For one thing it was a chance for the increasingly hectic fashion world to take a breath and to reset, but most importantly by far, I got to spend so much time I never had with my family. My lockdown period was split between enjoying the time with my wife and three children, and then being with and taking care of my mother who was ill at the time."

Kervin is clearly passionate about what he does, and like many in the creative industry his life is his work, and it’s often difficult to separate the two, but since what has happened, he says he really has had to think about that balance and reassess.

"Of course my business is the big provider, but then something like this happens and you get to realise what is truly important in life."
